On a recent post at MEX you will find ways on how to minimise and sometimes depending on your location totally avoid data charges. If you have a mobile phone that supports WiFi this is a must read for you.
In order to enter theses codes, the phone must be in the idle screen not in any of the menu screens. The idle screen is where you see the operator name, date, time, battery level, signal strength.
*#2820# (*#BTA0#) – Displays the Bluetooth device address of your phone.
*#62209526# (*#MAC0WLAN) – Displays the MAC address of the WLAN (wireless lan) adapter. This is available only in the newer devices that support WLAN.
*#7370# (*#RES0#)- Resets your phone to the default factory settings. Usually you will need this code when you want to reset your phone back to the same condition when you got it for the first time. When the phone ask for security code, the default one is 12345 unless you have specified one yourself.
Warning: Before you do reset the phone, make sure that you don’t have important data and that you know the security code for your phone. Your data on the phone memory will be lost once you reset it.
*#7780# (*#rst0*) – This will soft reset your phone. It is different from *#7370# because all data, like contacts, calendar and notes, are not removed. It will only reset the phone settings, such as profiles, themes and shortcuts. The default lock code is 12345.
*#92702689# (*#war0anty#) – Display the life timer information of your S60 phone, i.e. the total time of phone call in minutes.
Another key combination which is used to hard reset the phone similar to #*7370 which can when the phone cannot reboot.
Switch off the phone then press and hold Call key (Green key) + * key + 3 key + power button for a couple of seconds.
Note: This key combination doesn’t work on all S60 phones.

* running exe files :
With version 1.13,in the directory of FExplorer a console exe file : EXETEST.EXE (you can run it), the purpose is only to test if FExplorer can run EXE files on your phone.
* restoring the last path in views :
After leaving the ‘about box’, ‘settings’ or the ‘editor’ view, if FExplorer return to the root directory, check that the ‘save last path’ in the settings is ‘ON’, not only this settings is used when leaving FExplorer but i’s also used in all the differents ‘views’ (06/03/2005).
* how to switch between the text/hex viewer :
Simply, go to the settings and choose the viewer type : text or hex (06/05/2005).

To activate RBS:
(pause means the * key held in until box appears)
[pause] [pause] [pause] 1 1 3 [pause] 1 [pause] [ok]
You now have to press the [MENU] and scroll to the ‘Eng Field Options’ function with the keys, and enable it.
To de-activate RBS,
[pause] [pause] [pause] 1 1 3 [pause] 0 [pause] [ok]
This only works with some versions of software. Please report what works and doesn’t for you.

Uses of RBS:
- Distance From Base Station – Place a call, when it is answered, press [MENU] until ‘Eng Field Option’ is displayed, press [OK], select ‘Active Cell’, press [OK], press [MENU] until ‘Time Adv xxx’ appears, where xxx is a number. Multiply this number by 550, and the result is the distance from the RBS (Radio Base Station), in meters.
- Signal Quality – press [MENU] until ‘Eng Field Option’ is displayed, press [OK], select ‘Active Cell’, press [OK], press [MENU] until ‘C1’ appears. This is the signal quality. If it becomes negative for longer than 5 seconds, a new cell is selected.
These codes will work on most Nokia Mobile Phones to activate/deactivate advanced hidden functions that you can’t change through the phone menu
*3370# Activate Enhanced Full Rate Codec (EFR) – Your phone uses the best sound quality but talk time is reduced my approx. 5%
